Responsibilities

• Collection and disposal of solid waste through landfill, transfer or waste-to-energy facilities
• Promote waste prevention, recycling and resource recovery
• Monitoring and maintenance of disposal sites including Eastern Sanitary Landfill in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Organization

• Administration
  Oversees the daily operation of all aspects of the Bureau, including budget, procurement, and customer service contact with the public. 
• Collection
  Manages the collection of residential trash, recycling, and yard materials.
• Recycling
  Promotes recycling and waste prevention. 
• Refuse Disposal
  Operates and manages disposal of trash, recycling, and other materials at the Eastern Sanitary Landfill; Oversees operations of transfer of waste into and out of other County waste facilities.

Ten Year Solid Waste Management Plan
Baltimore County is in the process of drafting a Ten Year Solid Waste Management Plan for the County. A Public Hearing was held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 to review the January 2008 draft of the plan. The draft Solid Waste Management Plan is available for review.
