Recreation and Parks Board Screen on the Green Summer Movie Series

Red House Run Structural Sewer Rehabilitation
Baltimore County has started a major sewer rehabilitation project consisting of almost 15 miles of sewer line in the Overlea and Rosedale areas. Work on the $4.7 million project began in June and is expected to take about a year and a half to complete. It should be finished by the end of 2023. The Red House Run Structural Sewer Rehabilitation project is part of the County's Consent Decree—its agreement with the EPA to improve the entire sanitary system.

Bird River Channel Improvements
On October 18, Baltimore County began dredging parts of Bird River in an area between Iron Point on the east and Light Woods Creek on the west. The County’s contractor will dredge 4,008 cubic yards of material from the river over the course of two seasons. An estimated 50 percent of the task has been completed. Work is shut down from March until the fall in compliance with environmental regulations governing fish spawning. The project is estimated to cost $830,000.

Water Main at Seneca Point
Baltimore County is installing 1,600 feet of 12-inch diameter water main at Seneca Point along Red Rose Farm Road and Bogart Road. The project will cost $647,777 and will take six months to complete. It is about 75 percent complete. The main line is in and crews are flushing the line.

Parkville: East Branch Herring Run Relief Sewer
The Herring Run Relief Sewer, begun in February 2020, was estimated to take two years to complete and cost $16,177,000. It’s 88 percent complete. The project, which involves two tunnels and an open cut in lieu of a tunnel consists of more than 11,000 feet of new pipe and 28 manholes. Crews will work on the following streets: Taylor Avenue, Wendover Avenue, Birmingham Avenue, Aiken Avenue, Oakleigh Road, Darlington Drive and Queen Anne Drive.

Sewer Relining Project in Carney, Perry Hall and Towson
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) began an extensive sewer relining project in Carney, Perry Hall and Towson in May. It's 70 percent complete. More than 12 miles of sanitary sewer pipe will be relined during the next year and a half. The project will cost about $5.8 million. Most of the work will be below ground with minimal impact to communities. However, with any project of this scale, there may be some traffic or parking issues, and occasional chemical odors. DPWT staff will issue periodic updates.

Essex Structural Sewer Rehabilitation
Baltimore County is investing $4.4 million into structurally rehabilitating sewer lines in Essex in the area of Eastern Boulevard, Mace Avenue and Riverside Drive. The County’s contractor will line almost 15 miles of sewer pipe (eight-, 12-, 15- and 18-inch diameter conduits) during the next year. The project is about 72 percent complete.

Belair Road Water Line Replacement
Baltimore County is replacing 5,200 feet of water line on Belair Road between the City line and Fowler Avenue. This $6.5 million project is 96 percent complete. Road milling began at the close of May and is continuing. The southbound lane has been completed and work is continuing on the northbound lane with milling, patching and concrete work. Crews will need one more month to complete the job and should finish at the end of July. The old 12-inch cast-iron line, which dates back to 1923, was prone to breaking. It's being replaced with a 24-inch diameter line that should improve reliability, system hydraulics and fire protection along the Belair Road corridor. Construction is scheduled between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Ingress and egress are coordinated and are provided to all property owners and residents within the project's limits.

Hyde Park Pumping Station
The Department of Public Works and Transportation is improving the Hyde Park Sewage Pumping Station located near Back River and Muddy Gut. The improvements will cost $2,669,230 and should be finished this year. Work began in January 2020 and is 97 percent complete. It is in the final completion stage.

Brien Run Sewer Rehabilitation
Public Works is rehabilitating sewer lines in the Brien Run area south of Pulaski Highway. The project, anticipated to cost $7 million, began in March 2020 and is 98 percent finished. Inspectors are working on the punch list.

Bauernschmidt Manor Pumping Station
Upgrades to the Bauernschmidt Manor Sewage Pumping Station began in July 2019 and were expected to be finished during the summer of 2020 but were delayed due to supply problems caused by COVID-19. The project will cost $2,137,554 and is currently in the final completion stage.

Harewood Park Sewer Pumping Station
Baltimore County is renovating the Harewood Park Sewer Pumping Station at 12901 Princeton Road in Chase. Work on the $3.3 million project, which is in the final completion stage, began in July 2018.

Mohrs Lane Bridge
The Mohrs Lane Bridge (Bridge B-0143) over the CSX Railroad, north of Pulaski Highway, was closed in 2007 because of structural deterioration. Demolition was completed by CSX in 2011 at no cost to Baltimore County, which assumed ownership and plans to rebuild the span. A new bridge is currently being designed and the design should be completed in early 2023. It will then be advertised for construction in the summer of next year. This bridge will be part of the future Campbell Boulevard Corridor.
