If your rental housing unit meets certain criteria, it may be exempt from rental registration.
To find out if your property qualifies for a rental housing exemption, review the Rental Registration Exemption Affidavit (PDF). If any of the conditions apply, complete an application for exemption as outlined below.
If your rental unit does not qualify for exemption, you must register your rental housing instead.
Apply for a New Exemption Online
You may apply online for a rental exemption; however, online exemption renewals are not available at this time.
To apply for a new exemption online, you'll need a valid email address. No payment is required for a rental exemption. When you submit your application, you must provide:
- a Carbon Monoxide Alarm Verification (PDF)
- a lead inspection certificate, if the property was built before 1950
If you're applying for or renewing an exemption by mail or in person, you must:

- Carbon Monoxide Alarm Verification (PDF)
- lead inspection certificate, if applicable (see page two of application)
