EMS to Firefighter Bridge Program

The EMS to Firefighter Bridge program allows trained EMS providers to be cleared to ride Baltimore County suppression equipment.

Prerequisites

  • To be able to participate in the Bridge program, applicants must be Firefighter II certified.

Note: There may be times when Firefighter II will precede the Bridge program. When this occurs, applicants must be Firefighter I certified and then must successfully complete the Firefighter II program. They will then be allowed in the Bridge.  When it is proposed to conduct a Firefighter II class before the Bridge, both classes will be announced together.

  • To be able to participate in the Bridge program, applicants must successfully complete a Maze evolution with Fire Rescue Academy (FRA) oversight prior to the deadline.
  • To be able to participate in the Bridge program, applicants must successfully complete a live burn training prior to the deadline. This is part of the in-station performance objectives and must be signed by a FRA instructor. This can be an acquired structure burn, multi-station burn at the FRA or any other FRA approved burn.
  • To be able to participate in the Bridge program, applicants must complete the MFRI skills cards for Firefighter I (FFI) and have them signed by their assigned station captain. Applicants must also complete the in-station performance objectives. These performance objectives are similar to the stations that the applicant will be tested on. In-station objectives should be done with a crew and may be timed. These objectives also must be signed and, together with the skills cards, must be delivered to the FRA by the announced deadline.

All applicants should return to the FRA the application form, which states that they have received the application packet and would like to be placed on the list for the upcoming Bridge program. In cases where there is a large interest, those that apply first will be in the first class.
