Caution: Performing CPR requires you to be on your knees and bent over a mannequin or patient. Persons with medical problems should consider their own health and seek the advice of their physician prior to undergoing CPR training.
Types of CPR
There are two types of CPR.
Hands-only CPR is simple technique that anyone can perform in an emergency that is as effective as traditional CPR, but does not require mouth-to-mouth contact and keeps the victim's blood flowing until help arrives. Hands-Only CPR is not a certification program. Unlike traditional CPR, the Hands-Only technique consists of three simple steps:
- Call 911.
- Push hard and fast on the center of the chest.
- If possible, use a portable defibrillator, also known as an AED.
Watch the the American Heart Association's Hands-Only CPR demonstration video, available in English or Spanish. For more information on training and community awareness events, contact the Baltimore County Fire Department at 410-887-4860 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Traditional CPR courses are offered to the general public on a bimonthly basis.
