Watch the Recording of County Executive John A. Olszewski Jr. delivering the Proposed FY25 Budget Message

A mechanical permit is required when:

  • Ductwork is being installed in a dwelling that does not have ductwork, or additional ductwork not covered by other permits
  • Mechanical work was not included with the scope of work for an existing building permit
  • Additional mechanical work is being completed
  • Smoke control systems and smoke removal systems require mechanical permits and must be applied for on separate applications from the building permit

A separate electrical, plumbing/gas permit may be required depending on the system being installed. These would be applied for by a licensed electrician or plumber/gasfitter contractor with Baltimore County.

Required Documents

  • Construction Plans
  • Data Sheets—Only required for commercial permits, unless waived by the Building Plan Review division.
