Run For Office

Baltimore County has local office contests in the upcoming 2026 Gubernatorial Election. Walk-ins are welcomed, but appointments are preferred. 

To file, please contact the Election office by email at electioncandidate@baltimorecountymd.gov or call 410-887-3418. To establish a Candidate Committee, visit the State Board of Elections Candidate Filing page(link is external).

QUALIFICATIONS, FILING FEES AND WHERE TO FILE

QUALIFICATIONS

From Article II, Section 1, 5, Maryland Constitution:

  • Registered voter
  • Resident of the state five years immediately preceding election
  • 30 years of age at the time of the election
  • Not have served two immediately preceding elective terms

FAIR ELECTION PRACTICES

All candidates for office are required to conduct their campaigns in accordance with the fair election practices statute. Summaries of this law, prepared by the Attorney General of Maryland, are available from the State Board of Elections at 410-269-2840 or from the State Board of Elections(link is external) in Annapolis.

Every candidate, at the time of, or prior to filing candidacy, must file the appointment of a treasurer and the acceptance of such appointment by that treasurer. The Board of Elections has a form, which will be supplied to prospective candidates upon request, for fulfilling this requirement. To file, please email electioncandidate@baltimorecountymd.gov or call 410-887-3418. 

No filing of candidacy can be accepted unless it is accompanied by the required appointment of and acceptance by a treasurer or, it has previously been filed by the candidate.
