Types of Retirement Communities

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC's) provide access to total care from independent living through nursing home care. These require an up-front fee plus a monthly fee. Some refund a percentage of the entrance fee if the resident leaves, some do not. Some communities provide unlimited nursing services as part of the package, while others may limit the amount of nursing care before you pay an additional charge, depending on the type of contract that is signed. CCRCs are regulated by the Maryland Department of Aging.
