Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum

The Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum is a 142-acre site dedicated to telling the inspiring story of Benjamin Banneker, often considered the first African-American man of science. Learn more about the site's features. The museum has something for everyone, whether their interest is colonial history, astronomy, cultural activities, hiking or nature and environmental conservation.

REQUEST A SPECIALIZED PROGRAM

The park can tailor specialized programs for:

  • Scout Troops—Offered on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Youth and Adults—Field trips are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Topics include:

  • Banneker's Life—Learn about Banneker's life and accomplishments.
  • Ben the Beekeeper—Learn about pollination and the ways in which bees and other pollinators are crucial to our ecosystem.
  • Stream Strollers—Catch critters in a stream and observe them to learn about how the health of our streams affects the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Water shoes or rain boots required.
