1. Recycling helps reduce air pollution.

True - Recycling reduces the need for mining, which reduces air pollution.

2. You may have things at your home or school made from recycled bottles.

True - Picnic tables, playground equipment, fleece coats and toys can all be made from recycled plastics.

3. Half of all soda bottles that get recycled will end up as carpet.

True - But you won't be able to tell that the carpet was once a bottle!

4. In Baltimore County, paper, plastic and metal can all be placed in the same container for recycling collection.

True - With single stream recycling, all acceptable recyclables may be placed in the same container for collection.

5. A pizza box covered in cheese and sauce is an acceptable recyclable item.

False - Cardboard covered with food, wax, or plastic will not be collected for recycling.

6. Now that single stream recycling is in effect, Styrofoam, Kleenex, batteries, VHS tapes and pots may now be placed out for collection.

False - These items may not be placed out for collection.

7. Recycling improves the environment in many ways.

True - Recycling keeps material from going to landfills, which helps to extend landfill life. Recycling also conserves natural resources, such as trees, water and mineral ores.

8. Materials set out for recycling collection are not really recycled.

False - Materials set out for collection are picked up and taken to the County's own sorting facility. The recyclables are sorted and baled, and then sent to other locations where they are eventually made into new products! A video of the sorting facility is available to residents.
