Five Questions with New Employee Audrey Bagby
Q: WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO APPLY FOR YOUR CURRENT ROLE AS A BALTIMORE COUNTY BUREAU OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PUBLIC INFORMATION SPECIALIST?
AB: I was attracted to this role because I wanted to educate and advocate. In this role, I’ll be able to utilize my experience in education and with community members to advocate for a cleaner, greener Baltimore County.
Q: CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE WORK YOU WILL BE DOING IN THIS ROLE?
AB: Primarily I will be functioning in an outreach capacity, conducting tours of the County’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and giving recycling presentations at local elementary schools. I will also conduct outreach at local events.
Q: BEFORE ACCEPTING THE POSITION WITH BALTIMORE COUNTY, WHAT WAS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING OR INTERESTING JOB EXPERIENCE, AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM IT?
AB: Before accepting this position, my most interesting job was my most challenging. It was being an educator. In that role, I wasn’t a teacher only. I took on many roles for the students and community I served. I learned that no one job is just that. You will face challenges and opportunities that inevitably make you grow professionally and personally. Another thing I learned was that, in order to reach and relate to people, you have to understand where they are. Often, before people care about what you say, they gauge how you make them feel.
Q: WHEN YOU WERE A KID, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
AB: When I was a kid I wanted to be lots of things. The earliest thing I remember wanting to be was Barbie. She could do anything and everything and was still very fashionable. Then I started to understand that I had a passion for engaging, educating and empowering people.
Q: WHAT’S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
AB: I prefer not to call it a bucket list, so I call it my goal list. Some things on it include visiting Germany, learning to sew, and owning a thrift store later in life.
