At 3:31 a.m. on November 10, 1998, Baltimore County Police responded to the 7400 block of Lesada Drive, 21207 in Precinct 2 Woodlawn in reference to a home invasion robbery. Upon police arrival, they were able to speak with the victim’s girlfriend. She advised that she and the victim were returning to their apartment when they were confronted by three black male suspects in their apartment building’s vestibule. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and attempted to force the victim and his girlfriend into their apartment.

The victim and his girlfriend told the suspects that they had left the keys to the apartment at the victim’s workplace. The suspects told the victim and his girlfriend that they were going to take them to the workplace to get the keys. As they exited the apartment building, the victim took off running. The suspects chased after the victim and the girlfriend called 911. While she was on the phone, she heard gunshots.

Police searched the area and were able to locate the victim, 33-year-old Stepney Jerome Jones, lying in the parking lot. Stepney had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
