Baltimore County Police Launch Back to School Safety Campaign

As a new school year approaches, the Baltimore County Police Department is excited to announce its 26 Days of Safety Initiative. Leading up to the first day of school, the Baltimore County Police Department will be providing a series of back-to-school safety measures that are important for parents, students, and motorists to remember throughout the school year.  

“The safety of our children is a responsibility we all share,” said Baltimore County Police Chief Robert O. McCullough. “By working together, we can ensure a safe and successful school year for all our young people.”

Safety Tips for Drivers

  • Slow down and follow the speed limit, especially in school zones
  • Watch for children walking or biking to school
  • Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing 
  • Be alert and avoid distracted driving

 

Safety Tips for Students:

  • Use crosswalks and obey crossing guards
  • Walk on sidewalks when possible
  • Wear helmets when biking and use bike lanes if available
  • Avoid using phones or electronic devices while walking or biking

 

Safety Tips for Parents:

  • Review safety rules with your children regularly
  • Ensure your children know their home address and emergency contact information
  • Establish a safe route to school and practice it with your children
  • Stay informed about school policies and emergency procedures
