ACCREDITATION ASSESSMENT TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT
Site-based assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), will arrive June 2, 2025 to examine all aspects of the Baltimore County Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
Verification by the assessors that the Baltimore County Police Department meets the Commission’s comprehensive state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public access portal posted at https://cimrs2.calea.org/703.
If for some reason an individual cannot access the portal but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, the individual may do so by writing to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA®), 9532 Liberia Avenue, Suite 813, Manassas, VA 20110 or by email at calea@calea.org.
A copy of the standards can be obtained by contacting Captain David Trivett at dtrivett@baltimorecountymd.gov.
The Baltimore County Police Department has to comply with 463 standards in order to gain accredited status. Maintaining these standards demonstrates the Department’s commitment to professional excellence in providing law enforcement services to all those who live, visit or work in Baltimore County.
The assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from similar, but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review online materials and Department policies and interview individuals.
Once the CALEA® assessors complete their review of the Department, they report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the Department is to be granted accredited status.
Accreditation is for four years, during which the Department must submit status reports and participate in annual remote web-based assessments attesting continued compliance with the standards. This will be the Department’s 11th reaccreditation. The Department was initially accredited in 1984.
