Death of 4 year old ruled a homicide

Homicide detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department have charged 26-year-old Zurail Smith with several counts of child abuse following the death of a 4-year-old child on May 5, 2023. Amir James was found unresponsive inside a residence located in the Unit block of Sollers Point Road, 21222. Medics transported the child to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Smith was temporarily caring for the child at the time of his death. Zurail Smith remains held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
