Laser Strike Warning Issued by Baltimore County Police

February 15, 2023

ORIGINAL February 15, 2023

The Baltimore County Police Department is warning people about the dangers of laser beams pointed at aircraft specifically helicopters. When a laser pointer reaches a cockpit, it can disorient or blind a pilot. In 2021, the Federal  Aviation Administration recorded more than 9,700 such cases, a record high, and a 41 percent increase  from 2020. Shining a laser at an aircraft is a state and federal crime that can also result in substantial fines  from the FAA.
