Essex Precinct: Demolition, Renovation and Expansion
In the coming months, the Baltimore County Police Department’s Essex Precinct will undergo significant renovation and expansion to better accommodate the needs of the Department, community and our personnel. Built in 1973, Precinct 11 Essex has between 20 to 30 of its 161 staff members working offsite due to spatial limitations, a factor in deeming this project necessary.
Following a feasibility study by the firm Murphy and Dittenhafer Architects, it was decided that the best course of action was to demolish the annex and renovate the existing building. During the renovation, a 26,000-square-foot addition will be built to temporarily accommodate Department members. Once the addition is complete, Department members will move into the addition while the 8,000-square-foot main building is renovated. The final phase will involve connecting the addition to the newly-renovated main building.
