Community Urban Tree Canopy Maps and Data

Tree canopy maps and data on land cover are available by request for 30 Census Designated Places (CDPs) in Baltimore County. These may be useful for finding opportunities for planting trees, for an understanding of overall tree canopy in a community and other such uses. If you're interested in planting on public land, please consult the Policy and Guidelines for Community Tree Planting.

To request a map, select a CDP below to generate an email request. For more information about the maps, call Carrie Oberholtzer at 410-887-5684 or email coberholtzer@balimorecountymd.gov.

The base data for these detailed one-meter resolution maps is 2007 aerial orthophotography from the National Agricultural Imagery Project (NAIP), in combination with 2005 one-foot resolution elevation data derived from Baltimore County’s LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data layer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service arranged for interpretation of the NAIP photography and map compilation to be conducted by the University of Vermont’s Spatial Analysis Laboratory.

The table below presents the 30 CDPs, total land area, acres of tree canopy and percent of tree canopy cover. Select a community to see the maps and other data.
