Fallen Trees and Branches
Before submitting a concern regarding a fallen tree or branch on public or private property, use the County’s My Neighborhood mapping tool to determine who owns the tree in question.
On Baltimore county roads
The Baltimore County Bureau of Highways removes dead, storm-damaged trees and broken limbs from County roads and roadsides. This also includes the removal of limbs blocking streetlights, traffic signals, traffic warning signs or causing sight distance issues at intersections.
To report a fallen tree or limbs in a County roadway, call 311 or report it online.
ON PRIVATE PROPERTY
In compliance with existing Maryland Regulations, it is the property owner's responsibility to remove fallen trees and debris from private property.
Under Maryland Law, for fallen trees or similar accidents that may be qualified as an "act of God," the affected owners are responsible for damages to their property, including cleanup, removal and related expenses. These expenses may be covered under the homeowner's insurance policy.
Property owners generally have the right to self-remedy if tree roots or branches encroach on or threaten to damage their private property. The County does not generally assist in removing plant material from private property.
NEAR UTILITY WIRES
The County will not trim branches around privately-owned wires and cables. BGE, Verizon and Comcast have the right and obligation to maintain their own wire and cables. If a resident is worried about tree branches growing too near utility wires, contact the appropriate utility company directly.
ON BALTIMORE COUNTY PROPERTY
Report fallen or dangerous trees on a park or property owned by Baltimore County through the BaltCo 311 app. Property Management will investigate your concern and advise you of our findings.
