As a service-oriented agency, we encourage you to use our website to learn about services and get important information. Social Services Highlights

  • The Baltimore County Freezing Weather Shelter will be activated tonight, through Thursday night, March 16. The shelter will be open to the public by 7 p.m. each night and will close after 7 a.m. The Freezing Weather Shelter is located at the North Point Government Center at the intersection of Merritt Boulevard and Wise Avenue. The entrance to the shelter is off of Wise Avenue by the loading dock. Signs are posted to direct visitors to the appropriate entrance.

  • March is National Professional Social Work Month. Thank you to all social workers who serve individuals and families in Baltimore County! This month serves as a great opportunity for social workers across the country to turn the spotlight on the profession and highlight the important contributions they make to society. 

  • The Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) can help you pay electric and heating bills, prevent utility cut-offs and weatherize your home. View the video: "Get help paying your energy bills."

  • Do you receive federal benefits? Find out of you qualify for a free cell phone

  • If you own a cat or Pit Bull type dog, live in Baltimore County and receive government assistance, your cat or Pit Bull type dog could be spayed or neutered for free! For more information, call 410-887-2938 or schedule an appointment online. Please note your nine-digit client identification number is required when requesting an appointment.

  • Save Time: Send Us Your Paperwork—If you receive benefits from the Department of Social Services, you can save time by sending us your documents. If you have verification paperwork that needs to be turned in, email them to baltimorecounty.dmc@maryland.govfax them to 410-853-3025 or 410-853-3212, or mail them to:

Services and Resources

If you need help with your Medical Assistance, Food Supplements or Temporary Cash Assistance or to ask questions about your case, call the Department of Human Resources (DHR) Call Center at 1-800-332-6347. To report a change, call 410-853-3077. To appeal a case that has been denied, call 410-853-3319.
