Here’s your “March-ing” orders for exploration and fun. Check out maple sugaring exhibits. Try yoga as you’ve never done it before. Make a spinning wind catcher or become a world class “weed warrior.” Browse your way on a bird walk and go on a family egg hunt. Programs are run by Baltimore County Recreation and Parks and Nature Council volunteers. Many programs are free, but some ask for a donation or have a small fee. Be sure to check the websites to confirm times and locations.

Reminds People to Follow Twitter Feed for Storm Updates, Visit Stormfighter to Report Issues

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz reminds residents that they can find storm updates and report storm-related issues on the County website’s Stormfighter feature. The same storm updates can be found on the County’s emergency management Twitter feed at Twitter @BACOemergency.

Note: People who do not want to report via a mobile device or computer, may still call the Baltimore County Department of Public Works at 410-887-3560. The customer service representative will enter the information into the exact form that is available to citizens online.

In case of a medical or other emergency, people should call 911.

In severe storms, citizens are asked to please check on vulnerable elderly neighbors and relatives and make arrangements for their safety during the storm.

New App Puts County Services at Your Fingertips

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz announced the launch of BaltCoGo, a new County application for mobile devices that allows residents to easily request services, report issues in their community, pay property taxes and parking and speeding tickets, access news and social media feeds, register for push notifications and more. The app is offered free of charge to Android and iPhone users and may be downloaded from their respective app stores.  

“This is another step forward in our commitment to innovation and applying technology across County government to improve customer service and efficiency,” said Kamenetz. “Most people use their phones for just about everything and BaltCoGo is a great tool for quickly reaching out to the County when you want to report a problem or find information you need. I especially like the feature that sends notifications to my phone to remind me when it’s trash or recycling night.”

BaltCoGo is designed to be a robust mobile application that offers self-service functionality for constituents to get accurate information on County services and report their concerns. People can use the app to report issues like potholes, missed trash or recycling pick-ups, abandoned vehicles, building and development issues, neighborhood concerns like sidewalk problems or tall grass and weeds, pet and animal issues like stray dogs, concerns with rental properties and much more. People who submit a request or complaint will receive email responses and can also monitor the status of their requests via BaltCoGo.

The app offers a centralized location for people to engage directly with County government and be directed to the proper agency to get information and access services, without having to call or visit agencies. It offers people the opportunity to sign up for individualized push notifications, including reminders about their trash and recycling collection days. The app requires people to establish a free online account with the County by providing their name, email address and phone number.

Examples of online services that can be accessed through the app include:

  • apply for housing assistance vouchers, rental housing licenses, animal licenses and residential parking permits;
  • pay property taxes; parking, red light and speed camera violations; and fees for pet spay and neuter services;
  • access County maps that show zoning, historic districts, voting locations, bicycle facilities, road closures, GIS  data, and more.

“This mobile app is a great enhancement for residents to be able to connect easily with our County agencies to report a problem right in the moment and to get the information that they need. This is what is needed in today’s times,” said County Council Chair Julian E. Jones, Jr.

The application is integrated with existing County agencies’ systems and databases, enabling County employees to efficiently review and address constituent concerns and avoid duplicating efforts.
