Title: County Animal Services Welcomes City Pets for $20 Spay/Neuter Procedures

Southwest Area Park Facility Now Open for City and County Pet Owners

County Executive Don Mohler announced today that residents of Baltimore City may now bring their pets to the Southwest Area Park Animal Services facility in Baltimore Highlands to take advantage of low-cost spay/neuter packages that promote healthy pets and safe communities.

“We have made incredible progress in upgrading Animal Services and reducing the population of stray animals in our communities, and we are happy to share with our City neighbors this valuable public service that enhances the health and safety of their pets and our neighborhoods,” Mohler said.

The County offers low-cost spay/neuter packages at three locations around the County and has altered some 23,000 animals since opening it first on-site surgical suite in the Fall of 2013, including more than 6,000 so far this year. This is a significant accomplishment that advances the public health goal of reducing the population of homeless animals throughout Baltimore County.

Before the County began performing spay/neuter surgeries on shelter animals in the Fall of 2013 at its main facility in Baldwin, people who adopted pets from the County’s animal shelter were provided with vouchers to help offset the cost of having their animal altered elsewhere.

“This is a wonderful regional approach to combatting the issues of stray and unvaccinated cats and dogs,” said County Council Chair Julian E. Jones, Jr.

Facilities in Dundalk, Baldwin and Baltimore Highlands offer Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Services for Domestic Cats and Dogs

All three of the County’s Animal Services locations offer spay/neuter services for cats and dogs for the low cost of $20 for County residents, by appointment only. The Southwest Area Park location also includes Baltimore City pets. To encourage responsible pet ownership and decrease overpopulation of unwanted animals, this program includes:

  • Spay/neuter procedure
  • First distemper and rabies shots
  • Deworming
  • A County license
  • Microchip

“Stray dogs and cats don’t know about jurisdictional boundaries and my staff and I excited to expand to better serve pet owners and their animals,” said the County’s Director of Animal Services, Melissa Jones, V.M.D. She added that the included microchipping service is key to ensuring that lost animals can be returned to their owners.

More information, including animal restrictions and appointment scheduling is available on the County’s website at

Appointments are available now at the new Spay/Neuter Center located at 7702 Dunmanway in Dundalk, at the Southwest Area Park location, located at 3941 Klunk Drive in Baltimore Highlands, and at the County’s main Animal Services location, 13800 Manor Road in Baldwin. Advance payment by debit or credit card is required. No payment of any type is accepted at the facility.
