Title: Baltimore County Names 2020 Women of the Year

Honorees Will be Recognized at Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 25

Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month to honor women’s contributions in American society. This year’s theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote.” The theme honors “the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women, and for the women who continue to fight for the voting rights of others.”

Baltimore County and the Women’s Commission will recognize three outstanding women during its 38th Annual “Woman of the Year” Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, March 25, at 6 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Towson.

The 2020 valiant women of Baltimore County are:

  • Alejandra Ivanovich as the “Woman of the Year,” a dedicated community leader and an advocate for the Latino community and for victims of domestic violence.

  • Dr. Marlene Mahipat as the “Woman Making a Difference Awardee,” a tireless community servant, Dr. Mahipat established two nonprofit foundations assisting children, families in need, and care for animals.

  • Madelin McLean as the “Young Woman of the Year,” a senior at Catonsville High School and a leader inside and outside of the classroom organizing community outreach projects.

Chesnie Caster, a senior at Franklin High School, received Honorable Mention.

These awards are given to County female residents who have enhanced the lives of citizens and made significant contributions in the community, workplace, or school to further the interests of women and children.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski will lead the recognition of awardees, together with County Council members, State Senators and Delegates, and County department heads.
