What Social Workers Specializing in Child Welfare Do

The Baltimore County Department of Social Services is in need of qualified child welfare workers to help children in need. If ensuring safe, permanent, nurturing families for children and youth reflects your deepest values, then a career in child welfare may be for you. We partner with families to identify strengths and issues, and to assist with finding solutions. We are advocates, counselors, listeners and problem-solvers. We support families to successfully and safely care for their children. We protect children from future abuse and neglect; address their emotional, behavioral or health problems; and provide permanent families for children and youth through reunification, adoption or guardianship. We assist older youth to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to live a satisfying and productive adult life.

Who Qualifies?

A masters degree in social work is required. We also require licensure at the graduate level, or that candidates be license eligible and earn the Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) within the first year of employment.

We offer:
