Rural Roads

Rural roads are defined as a County-maintained road within Baltimore County’s rural conservation zones located outside of the Urban Rural Demarcation Line (URDL).

Design Standards for rural roads and for bridges and culverts along rural roads are included in Chapter Eight–Roads and Streets (PDF) and Chapter 10–Structures (PDF) in the Baltimore County Design Manual, adopted on August 2, 2010. These Rural Road Design Standards were previously approved via Council Resolution 80-08 on October 20, 2008 and were included in the Design Manual for ease of use and clarity.

We also provide information on rural road capital projects and bridge repairs.
