On March 2, 1996, at approximately 4 a.m., officers with the Baltimore County Police Department responded to the 6300 block of York Rd., 21212 for a shooting. Officers found 23-year-old Joann “Jody” Elizabeth LeCornu suffering from a gunshot wound.

Even though it’s been 26 years since that fateful morning, Baltimore County detectives are still following up on leads in the case.

Police know that Jody had been at the Mount Washington Tavern until it closed.  After leaving the tavern, Jody went to the Curb Shoppe Bar, in the 5700 block of Falls Road. After she made a purchase, Jody drove to the Drumcastle Shopping Center, in the 6300 block of York Road, 21212.

While in the shopping center’s parking lot, the suspect approached Jody in her vehicle. It is not known exactly how long the suspect spent at the vehicle or if there was any interaction with LeCornu; but at some point, he shot LeCornu once in the back while she was seated inside her car.

After being shot, LeCornu drove her vehicle onto York Road and then into the parking lot of the York Road Plaza across the street. She drove around the lot and then stopped. The suspect followed her and when the car stopped, he reached in and took something from the vehicle.

Fingerprints were lifted from inside and outside of LeCornu’s car. Record checks of the fingerprints were negative for a suspect.

Suspect Description

The man drove away southbound on York Road in a white BMW.

Witnesses described the person as a black male, with a stocky build who was wearing a drab or green-colored army or camouflage style coat.
