Crime Statistics

Crime Statistics by Crime Offenses

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski released a new comprehensive 2021 Public Safety Data Dashboard on February 25, 2021, in his latest effort to increase government transparency and accountability. This data dashboard provides detailed information about crime offenses and crime data in Baltimore County. This redesigned Public Safety Dashboard reports National Incident-Based Reporting Systems (NIBRS) data beginning January 1, 2021 and is updated each month.

As of January 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) transitioned to reporting crime data utilizing NIBRS. Baltimore County has joined every law enforcement agency across the nation in a mandatory transition to NIBRS. The 2021 NIBRS Public Safety Dashboard shows continued decreases in crime in Baltimore County. Baltimore County's public safety data had previously been reported to the Maryland State Police and the FBI through Summary Reporting Systems (SRS).

Baltimore County also released a second dashboard summarizing SRS crime data from 2017 to 2020. According to this annual data, between 2017 and 2020 Baltimore County experienced significant reductions in major crime categories, including homicides, assaults, robbery, burglary, theft, motor-vehicle theft and trafficking.

This tool was developed as part of BCSTAT, a data-driven performance management program to create accountability, improve performance, ensure data quality and increase transparency across Baltimore County.
