MAN, 58, DIES IN GWYNN OAK TOWNHOME FIRE

July 5, 2024

A 58-year-old man died Wednesday night in a one-alarm Gwynn Oak house fire.

The victim is Michael James Smith of the 1500 block of Langford Road, Gwynn Oak.

Fire crews responded to the 1500 block of Langford Road at 11:36 p.m. for a report of a odor of burning. Units arrived minutes later and found fire visible on the second floor of the home. During search and rescue operations, crews found him, in cardiac arrest, on the second floor and transferred him to the care of EMS providers. He was transported to St. Agnes Hospital, where doctors provided additional treatment before pronouncing him dead.

The one-alarm fire was placed under control at 11:54 p.m.

BCoPD fire investigators have ruled this fire an accidental fire caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
