A Middle River home was severely damaged this morning when a vehicle crashed into it and caught fire.

Fire and Police units responded at 8:45 a.m. to the 900 block of Ramble Run Road, 21220, for a vehicle into a building. The call was upgraded to a fire box at 8:46 a.m.

First-arriving Fire crews found heavy fire -- the fire from the crash ignited the first and second floors of the home -- and worked quickly to knock down the fire. Neighbors reported hearing loud, explosive sounds which, based on preliminary observations, fire officials believe may have been the result of a battery explosion.

BCoPD's Precinct 11 Traffic Team is conducting the investigation.

Two patients from the vehicle were transported to local hospitals. One patient went to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center as a Priority 2; another went to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center as a Priority 3.
