COVID-19 Coronavirus Updates and Guidance

The County is taking a number of actions to keep residents safe and minimize the spread of COVID-19. Find status information for County operations and services.

Food Distribution Assistant

To help provide food security for Baltimore County families during this challenging time, Youth Services is hiring Food Distribution Assistants to help issue packaged food boxes at one of 21 sites identified by the County. All proper precautions will be taken to ensure the health and safety of those working and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Between the ages of 14 and 21
  • Documented U.S. citizens and County residents
  • Able to provide own transportation to worksites
  • Drug-free

Duties

Assistants will also be expected to:

  • Participate in training activities before the term of employment in order to gain an understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of the food distribution sites.
  • Safely engage community members (answering questions, taking feedback, etc.) while maintaining proper social distancing
  • Pack and load food boxes
  • Bag fresh produce
  • Be friendly

Youth employees will also receive access to Baltimore County Career EDGE professional development modules and a certificate upon successful completion of service that can be used for resume building.

Desired Skills

Other desired skills include:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to follow COVID-19 guidelines, including the ability to wear a face covering the entire time you are at the distribution site
  • Willingness to serve in all weather
  • Willingness to learn, teach, and share with fellow employees and the community

Hours and Compensation

Service hours will primarily be Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to noon, from September 5 through December 26, with training provided on the following dates:

  • August 22—COVID-19 training via webinar
  • August 29—Worksite training

Food Distribution Assistants will be paid the minimum wage of $11 per hour (for three hours per distribution day) via a biweekly check in the mail. Assistants will work three weekends before receipt of the first paycheck.
