The Baltimore County Department of Corrections is looking for individuals who are dedicated to a career in criminal justice to work in our new state-of-the-art correctional facility. Our new facility incorporates the latest in correctional techniques, strategies, and programs, while utilizing new, high-tech computerized equipment to maximize the security of our environment.

Get Notified About Job Openings

Receive an email notification about the next open application period by submitting a Job Interest Card. You will be notified for one year after the date of submission whenever the Department of Corrections is accepting applications.

Application Process

You must meet the minimum job qualifications to be considered for the Correctional Officer position:

  1. Have a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
  2. Be at least 18-years-old by the time you are hired
  3. Be a citizen or resident alien of the United States the day you submit your application
  4. Have a valid driver's license by the time you are hired

If you meet the minimum qualifications, you must also successfully complete the following:

  1. Online Application
  2. Personal History Statement and Pre-Employment Questionnaire
  3. Written Examination
  4. Background Investigation
  5. Medical and Physical Examinations

1. Online Application

If there are current Correctional Officer vacancies, submit an online application for the Correctional Officer position. The County accepts online applications only.  

If you submit an application and you do not meet the minimum job qualifications, Baltimore County will notify you by email or letter. Whether you are contacted by email or letter depends on the preference you expressed on your application.

2. Written Exam

If you meet the minimum job qualifications, Baltimore County will schedule you for the next written exam. The County will notify you of your test date, time and location. You must complete a Personal History Statement (PDF) and submit your statement along with the required documents before the written exam. You must also complete and submit the Pre-Employment Questionnaire (PDF).

3. Background Investigation

If you pass the written exam and physical agility test, Baltimore County will investigate your full background, which includes but is not limited to a criminal background check, polygraph, psychological examination and fingerprinting. 

4. Medical and Physical Examination

You will undergo a full medical examination by a certified physician designated by the Baltimore County Department of Corrections, that includes vision, hearing and drug screening.
