Baltimore County Launches Survey for High-Risk Residents Interested in Monkeypox Vaccine

August 5, 2022

In anticipation of receiving doses of the Jynneos vaccine used to protect against the monkeypox virus, Baltimore County has launched a survey for high-risk residents interested in being vaccinated.

“Baltimore County initially received 100 doses of the vaccine and is using it to vaccinate high-risk contacts of confirmed cases,” said Health Officer Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch. “Our ongoing education of residents about monkeypox, proactive testing and vaccination efforts, and our new survey will prepare us to effectively address this public health concern when the vaccine is readily available.”

Residents can access and submit the confidential survey at MPXvax.baltimorecountymd.gov(link is external). The information provided will assist in determining if they are high risk and eligible for the vaccine at this time.

Although most infected are men who have close social or intimate contact with other men, monkeypox does not discriminate. The virus can be spread through sores/scabs, contact with objects, fabrics including clothing, bedding, or towels, and through respiratory droplets from an infected individual.

Indications of the virus(link is external) include, but are not limited to, a rash or sores, swollen glands, chills, fever, headache and other flu-like symptoms. Residents are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider if they have these symptoms or have been in close contact with a confirmed case. Those without a healthcare provider should contact the Baltimore County Department of Health at 410-887-3816 to inquire about testing.
