Obtain Marriage or Divorce Records

Marriage and divorce records are available from the Clerk of the Court for Baltimore County by mail or email.

Marriage Licenses

Marriage licenses are issued by the Clerk of the Court for Baltimore County. The license is valid for ceremonies taking place within Baltimore County after a 48-hour waiting period and expires after six months. A fee of $35 is required at time of issue. Cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards are accepted.

It's only necessary for one person to apply for the license. Please bring the following information for both applicants:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Age
  • Social Security number
  • Place of birth
  • Marital status

If divorced or widowed, provide the exact date and name of the county and state in which the divorce or death occurred for both applicants. This applies for all divorces and deaths. Identification is not required unless under age 18. Eighteen is the legal age one can be married without parental consent.


Civil Marriage Ceremonies are limited until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are performing outdoor ceremonies. All ceremonies are by appointment only with limited attendance allowed. 

Civil Marriage Ceremonies are performed Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. by appointment, and are scheduled for outdoor ceremonies only.

If the ceremony is occurring at the courthouse, once all guests have arrived, one member of the marrying couple shall report to the second floor Licensing Department to check in and make payment of $25. Payment options are cash, check or money order made payable to Clerk of the Court, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover credit card. No debit cards are accepted at this time.

Due to social distancing requirements, the marrying couple is limited to no more than seven guests outdoors.

Marriage Certificates

Copies of marriage certificates are available by phone at 410-887-2607, mail or email at The cost of the certificate is $5.50 and must be paid by cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover credit card. Request for Certified Copy of Marriage License Online Form.

If your marriage took place on or after January 1,1990, you may request a copy online via the Maryland Vital Statistics Administration.

To request a marriage certificate by mail or email, please include:

  • Wife's full maiden name (first, middle and last)
  • Husband's full name (first, middle and last)
  • Date of marriage (month, day and year)
  • Check or money order for $5.50 made out to Clerk of the Court (cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover credit card are accepted)..
  • Applicant’s mailing address

Divorce Decrees and Annulments

Copies of divorce decrees or annulments of marriage are available by phone at 410-887-3494 or email at There is no fee for verification of divorce or annulment. Copies of the decree or annulment are $0.50 per page and must be paid by cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover credit card. A certified copy is an additional $5.

To request a divorce decree or annulment of marriage by mail or email, please include:

  • Case number, if available or
  • Full name (first, middle, last) of both parties
  • Whether you want divorce decree or annulment of marriage
  • Check or money order for $.50 per page made out to Clerk of the Court (cash, check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover credit card are accepted).
  • Additional $5 if requesting a certified copy
  • Applicant's mailing address

Verification of Divorce or Annulment

Verification of divorce or annulment is also available from the Maryland Vital Statistics Administration from January 1, 1992 to the present for $12. The division can verify the names of the persons divorced, the type of divorce action, the county in which the divorce took place and the date of the decree. It cannot provide the official divorce decree or annulment of marriage. Verification of divorce is accepted by certain agencies seeking proof of divorce or annulment.
