LAWS
- General laws regarding landlords and tenants can be found in Title 8 of the Real Property Article of the Maryland Code.
- The District Court's Jurisdiction over landlord-tenant matters is provided in Section 4-401 of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of the Maryland Code.
- Section 400 of Title 12 of Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of the Maryland Code permit appeals of District Court decisions.
COURT RULES
- District Court Civil Proceedings are conducted under Title 3 of the Maryland Rules.
- Special Rules for landlord-tenant and grantee actions can be found in Rule 3-711.
- Appeals from District Court to Circuit Court are governed by Chapter 100 of Rule 7.
REGULATIONS
The Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) has several sections that may be of interest to landlords and tenants. The quickest way to find these sections is to visit the COMAR search page and perform searches on the words "landlord*" or "tenant*" without the quotes.
