Voluntary Long-Term Disability Insurance

Benefit-eligible employees have access to Cigna’s Voluntary Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance, which provides income protection for unexpected events through a 100 percent employee-paid premium. For many families, every paycheck counts. Have you ever worried what would happen to your bills, your savings and your lifestyle if you couldn’t work? Cigna’s Voluntary LTD Insurance provides income protection for those unexpected events.

Employees who are absent from work for 90 consecutive days for an illness or injury may submit a claim for LTD benefits. You are not required to exhaust your accrued leave before applying.

If the claim is approved, 60 percent of your gross monthly base salary (up to $7,500) will be paid when you become disabled and can’t work for a period of time due to a covered illness or injury. Payments come directly to you or someone you designate, and can be spent any way you like, either for planned expenses, such a groceries, mortgage or utilities, or unplanned expenses like medical bills. Use Cigna's online Disability Income Needs Calculator to help you evaluate your income protection needs.

The Cigna LTD 100 percent employee-paid rates are as follows:
  • Monthly rate per $100: $0.632
  • Biweekly (26 pays) rate per $100: $0.2917

Below is an example of how to calculate the biweekly rate per pay:

  1. Calculate your monthly salary. (Example: $3,000)
  2. Divide by $100. (Example: $30)
  3. Multiply by .2917. (Example: $8.75 per pay)
