Baltimore County Food Policy Task Force

The Food Policy Task Force was created by the County Council pursuant to its passage of Resolution 9-16. The County Council recognized that even in a generally prosperous jurisdiction such as Baltimore County, there are still very real challenges for a significant number of it citizens to access and afford the foods essential to a healthy diet, particularly for the most vulnerable in our communities including children and the elderly. The Food Policy Task Force was established as an advisory task force to study and report to County government on methods to significantly improve public health, food security, and the community well-being of all who live, work, study, and recreate in the County, by developing and supporting healthy eating, active living policies and initiatives to create systemic change to the local food system, while simultaneously promoting health, economic opportunity, and well-being, especially among communities that have been negatively impacted by the lack of a coherent food system. The Task Force has consisted of 18 members, with one member appointed by each Council member and the County Executive, and 10 other members appointed from various educational and food related organizations and non-profits.

The Task Force began meeting in March 2016 and would generally meet the third Wednesday of each month at 8:00 AM in the County Executive Conference Room on the mezzanine level of the Historic Courthouse located at 400 Washington Avenue, Towson, MD 21204. The Task Force completed its work in accordance with Resolution 9-16 in May 2018.
