If Approved, the Tax Sale Would Be Delayed Until October 2020

In light of the economic stress placed on households and businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today announced that the administration is introducing a bill to allow Baltimore County to delay the tax sale process.

"In the midst of this public health crisis, we continue to take unprecedented steps to support our residents," Olszewski said. "We are optimistic that the County Council will join us in providing property owners more flexibility during this uncertain time."

Baltimore County properties with unpaid real property taxes, accrued interest or penalties may be auctioned at the County's annual tax sale.

Currently Baltimore County is required by law to hold the tax sale "by the third Thursday in June." It is currently scheduled for June 5, 2020. Baltimore County cannot alter this date without legislative action.

If approved by the County Council, Olszewski would delay the 2020 Baltimore County tax sale until October 2020.
