Baltimore County Commission on Veterans Affairs to Host Veterans’ Celebration and Resource Fair
TOWSON - The Baltimore County Commission on Veterans Affairs will host its first-ever Veterans’ Celebration and Resource Fair at Towson University’s Union building on Sunday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The daylong event will feature activities, refreshments and a wide range of resources, as well as a special ceremony honoring local heroes.
Organized to bring veterans and their families to together for a day of camaraderie, fun, and support, the Commission planned the event during Veterans Day weekend to thank the brave men and women who have served in the United State military for their ongoing dedication and sacrifices.
The Veterans Affairs Ceremony – an awards ceremony honoring local heroes – will begin at noon and feature Commission Chair Jeff Bonner as emcee. Speakers include Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Woods and Towson University President Dr. Mark Ginsburg. Honorees include:
- Joseph Breining: Outstanding Leadership and Service to the Veterans of Towson University
- Vanessa Deal: Outstanding Veteran Leadership and Service to Baltimore County
- Robert Filippi: Outstanding Veteran Leadership and Service to Baltimore County
- Jason Marshall: Outstanding Service and Support to Baltimore County Veterans
- Frank Price: Outstanding Veteran Leadership and Service to Baltimore County
- Patrick Smithwick: Outstanding Dedication and Service in Support of Veterans’ Issues
The fair will feature organizations and services that can assist veterans in their post-military life, including a Veterans Affairs claims clinic (veterans can file claims onsite), job opportunities, healthcare information and educational programs. Participants include EveryMind, Project Vet House, Baltimore County Suicide Prevention, Blue Star Families, Wounded Warrior Project and many more.
Also featured will be free face painting and kids’ activities, complementary food courtesy of Mission BBQ and a Ravens watch party.
Formed in 2003, the Baltimore County Commission on Veterans’ Affairs was created to advocate and help to enhance the quality of life for Baltimore County veterans of military service and their families. Defunct for several years, County Executive Olszewski in 2021 announced legislation to expand, enhance, and revitalize and modernize the group.
