Baltimore County Celebrates Completion of Hamiltowne Park Restoration Project in Rosedale

ROSEDALE, MD — Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski and the Department of Recreation and Parks today celebrated the completion of the Hamiltowne Park playground restoration and park enhancements project. The update includes a full playground replacement, LED lighting upgrade, new entry path and work on a new drinking fountain that will include a dog bowl and bottle filler.
 
“Hamiltowne Park is one of the many hidden gems in our neighborhoods that encourage us to stay active, connect with our neighbors, and enjoy the natural beauty that makes Baltimore County an amazing place to call home,” said County Executive Olszewski. “This is the first of many transformative projects within the Department of Recreation and Parks’ Local Park Comprehensive Enhancement Program, and I’m proud to work with State and local partners to continue delivering needed improvements like renovated playgrounds, cleaner trails, and water fountains for our residents and pets to enjoy.”

The project was made possible with $470,000 from the Baltimore County Local Park Comprehensive Enhancement Program, $150,000 in state funding from legislative bond initiatives, and$50,000 from local open space funds.
 
This project represents Baltimore County’s continued dedication to reimagining the state of play in Baltimore County and making access to quality recreation opportunities a priority.
 
The Hamiltowne Park project is the first project completed as part of Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks’ Local Park Comprehensive Enhancement Program, which was created to refurbish and improve the County’s older park sites. This relatively new program was made possible through increased funding support from County Executive Olszewski and the Baltimore County Council.
 
“Revitalizing our older community parks is essential for lifting up our communities and improving the quality of life for our residents,” said Councilman Mike Ertel. “I am thrilled to see Hamiltowne Park transformed into a modern park facility, with new amenities and resources for the surrounding community. I look forward to continuing to work with County Executive Olszewski, the Department of Recreation & Parks, and our state partners to continue investing in our community parks.”

The complete replacement of the playground equipment ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for children of all ages, offering an inclusive environment that fosters physical activity and imaginative play. The upgraded LED lighting promotes energy efficiency, reducing the park's ecological footprint.

Small neighborhood parks like Hamiltowne provide convenient walk-to recreational opportunities, helping to serve residents who may not have access to transportation. The 1.7-acre park was acquired by Baltimore County in 1969 as open space dedicated as part of the Hamiltowne residential subdivisions.
 
The County’s local open space program helps to ensure that prospective residents of new developments have access to open space—whether improved with recreational facilities, open and grassy, or in a natural, wooded state.
 
The Hamiltowne Park project is the first in a series of park development and enhancement projects that will benefit the residents of eastern Baltimore County and beyond. By leveraging strategic partnerships and investments, this initiative aims to strengthen community bonds, promote healthy lifestyles and foster a sense of pride in local parks and recreational facilities.

Other underway or upcoming east county projects include the construction of a skate park at Hazelwood Park, a recreation activity center at McCormick Elementary School Recreation Center, continued renovations and enhancements at Linover Park, and major renovations and enhancements to Holt Park and Center for the Arts.
