Baltimore County today announced plans to form a new non-profit community development organization (CDO) focused on the Liberty Road Corridor. The CDO, developed in partnership with The Nelson Ideation Group (TNIG) and funded through $600,000 in federal American Rescue Plan funds, will engage community stakeholders and develop a business plan and work to support efforts to revitalize the Randallstown area.

“We believe the Liberty Road commercial corridor is a prime candidate for revitalization, and we are proud to be working closely with residents as we create an even more vibrant and dynamic Randallstown,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “We look forward to working with the Nelson Ideation Group and our incredible community leaders to advance revitalization efforts in Randallstown, ensuring the Liberty Road corridor remains a thriving destination for residents for generations to come.”

The new organization was developed to focus on building cohesion, a sense of place and a structure for economic growth, redevelopment and potential services along the Liberty Road corridor. Similar to the Dundalk Renaissance, a 501(c)3 nonprofit community development organization established in 2001, the Randallstown CDO will work to mobilize people to invest in the Liberty Road corridor area’s neighborhoods, economy, and quality of life.

The project will kick off with a virtual “Creating a Community Development Organization for Liberty Road” meeting on Tuesday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m.

A local Black-and-woman-owned firm located in Randallstown, the Nelson Ideation Group, LLC will convene a workgroup of local stakeholders to decide the focus of the new organization’s work.

Over the next year in a two-part engagement process, TNIG will review data, past plans and work with community leaders, major employers, businesses, and property owners to identify the new organization’s mission, priorities and program for the first three years.

The group will provide organizational development support as a Board of Directors is formed and hires an executive director and provide support as they begin implementation of the organization’s business plan.
