Baltimore County Police are investigating a string of crimes committed by a 16-year-old boy this morning in the Catonsville area.

Just after 10:30 a.m. Baltimore County Fire and Police Departments were called to the 900-block of Bardswell Road, 21228 for a house fire. Information was received that the fire was intentionally set by the suspect. Fire Department Engine 13 (Westview) was the first on the scene of the fire and found smoke showing. Firefighters contained the fire in less than 10 minutes and did not find anyone inside the house.

Police then received a call that the suspect was carrying some type of weapon and chasing a man on Bardswell Road in the direction of Johnnycake Elementary School. This was followed by a call from the elementary school that the suspect, who could be seen wearing a mask, walked into the school building. The suspect did not have a weapon when he walked into the school. Police determined that the 16-year-old gained access and attempted to steal property from inside the building. He left the school without incident after being approached by school officials. Once outside the building, the suspect was followed by school officials and taken into custody by police in the area of Vanderwood Road, 21228. Officers are continuing their investigation and expect to place charges against the juvenile.
