Update: 1/20/18 1:30 p.m.

A suspect, involved in a fight at Perry Hall High School this week, is now in custody following a cooperative effort between the Baltimore County Police Department and Baltimore County Public Schools.

On January 18, 2018, just after 11 a.m., Baltimore County Police were dispatched to a fight on the parking lot of Perry Hall High School. Although police and school administrators did not initially locate a fight, surveillance footage was immediately reviewed and an incident was observed on that footage that had occurred on the outskirts of the parking lot. Later in the day, police and school officials were also made aware of the existence of a photograph from the scene of that incident, that appeared to depict a male holding what resembled a firearm.

Throughout the extensive investigation that followed, police and school staff were able to determine that a physical fight had, in fact, taken place and that a male subject had retrieved what appeared to be a long gun from a vehicle parked near the scene of the incident. That male had then walked towards the scene of the fight that was taking place while holding the weapon.

Detectives were able to quickly identify and arrest the man who was seen in possession of that weapon, and he is now identified as Darren Keith Bennett Jr. (18) of the 3900 block of Mewswood Lane, Nottingham, MD 21236. At the time of his arrest, police recovered and seized an Airsoft weapon, belonging to Bennett, that matched the weapon observed in the photograph originally given to police. Darren Keith Bennett Jr. is charged with possessing a weapon on school property, disturbing school operations, and disturbing the peace. Darren Bennett is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center and was denied bail.

Police are not searching for any additional suspects at this time. The remaining involved individuals have also been identified and criminal charges are pending.
