This year marks the 18th annual “Shop with a Cop” program in Baltimore County. One hundred officers and 102 children from the 10 precincts will start out at 7:30 a.m. on December 7 to celebrate this special day.

At approximately 8 a.m., the officers and children will arrive at the Walmart store in Cockeysville. As they arrive, they will be greeted by members of the Optimist Clubs. Seasonal music will be performed by Dulaney High School students.

The children and their officer “buddies” will do their holiday shopping with money provided by the Optimist Clubs of Baltimore County. Each child will receive $100 to spend as he or she chooses. Usually, the children buy presents for family and friends.

After shopping, Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt will meet the children and the officers when they arrive at the Outback restaurant in the Hunt Valley Towne Centre for breakfast. (Outback provides the breakfast.)

This special Baltimore County Police Department tradition is the largest event of its kind in the state.

Officers eagerly anticipate Shop with a Cop each year and the joy that it brings to children in the community.
