UPDATE (October 24, 2019 1:54 p.m.):

The pole in this fatal crash was previously identified as a BGE pole. The pole was erroneously marked and has been discovered to be a utility pole connecting communications cables to the opposite side of Charles Street.

Original Release (October 22, 2019 3:35 p.m.):

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is investigating a fatal crash this morning in Towson involving a high school student.

Kayla Winter Perry (17) of the unit block of Phlox Circle, 21117, a 12th grade student at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, died this morning of injuries sustained when she exited her vehicle after a minor collision on Charles Street near the entrance to Loyola Blakefield High School.

Perry was traveling northbound on Charles Street at approximately 7:13 a.m. when she lost control of her Honda Accord and struck the curb, causing her vehicle to ride up onto a guardrail and slide into a BGE pole. The BGE pole broke and fell to the ground, pulling wires tight across the north and southbound lanes of Charles Street. Perry exited her vehicle, and while she was standing outside the vehicle a box truck traveling southbound struck the low-hanging wires, which in turn struck and threw Perry onto the shoulder of the road. Baltimore County EMS responded to the scene and initiated life-saving measures, transporting Perry to Greater Baltimore Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.

Two additional vehicles were also struck by the stretched wires causing damage to both vehicles. One of those drivers suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. No other drivers involved reported suffering injuries.

The crash caused major delays during the morning rush hour in the Towson area, closing Charles Street from Chestnut Avenue through Kenilworth Drive until approximately 11 a.m.

The Baltimore County Police Department remains in contact with the Baltimore County Public School System regarding this crash. Counselors will be available to students for the following several days. Anyone suffering an emotional crisis as a result of this loss is encouraged to contact the school for resources at 443-809-2775 or contact the Baltimore County Police Mobile Crisis Hotline at 410-931-2214. One woman died following a single-vehicle crash in Kingsville Saturday evening.

Police responded to the crash at 6:45 p.m. when a Ford Taurus traveling northbound on Belair Road near Cheryl Avenue drifted off of the roadway and struck a BGE pole, causing the vehicle to roll over and eject the driver. Baltimore County EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 7:24 p.m.

The driver is identified as Teresa Ann Warfel (57) of the 3100 block of Rocks Chrome Hill Road, 21084. The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is continuing to work to determine the instigating factors to this fatal crash.

On the afternoon of May 16 Baltimore County Police responded to a single-car crash in the unit-block of Cliffholme Road, 21117. Crash Team investigators determined that a 2016 Nissan Sentra was attempting to back down a driveway when the car veered off of the roadway and slid down an embankment. The car overturned and came to rest on the passenger inside a small stream. Baltimore County Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the crash scene at 4:45 p.m. where they found two patients trapped. Crews freed both patients by 5:06 p.m.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger has been identified as Harriet Lee Tamres, 72, of the 7200-block of Chalkstone Drive, 21208. The Crash Team continues to investigate.
