Original Release (May 2, 2019 12:53 p.m.):

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team continues investigating a fatal crash that happened in Kingsville yesterday evening.

Police were called to Raphel Road around 7 p.m. when a Chrysler 300 traveling northbound on Raphel Road near the intersection of Bradshaw Road crossed the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a BGE pole and then a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

The driver and a female passenger in the vehicle both suffered life-threatening wounds and burn wounds during the crash. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene and has not yet been positively identified. The male driver was transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition.

A mother and her 9-year-old son were killed in a single vehicle crash in Woodlawn last night. Her 5-year-old daughter, also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, is hospitalized in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the mother, identified as Tanja Tanesha Shields (29) of the 5500 block of Wesley Avenue, 21207, was driving her 2017 Nissan Altima westbound on Gwynn Oak Avenue approaching Park Drive around 11:05 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan drove onto a raised median separating the directions of travel, struck a tree in the median, and caught fire. Witnesses at the scene were able to remove the occupants from the Nissan.

All three occupants were transported to area hospitals where Tanja Shields and her 9-year-old son, Khalil M. Wyche, were pronounced deceased. Her 5-year-old daughter remains hospitalized in critical condition.

None of the occupants of the vehicle were restrained by seatbelts or car seats at the time of the crash. The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team will be working to determine any additional factors that may have contributed to this fatal crash.
