The operator of a motorcycle involved in a crash in Essex tonight has died.

The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Route 702 around 5:13 p.m. when it struck the passenger side rear quarter panel of a 2013 Nissan Maxima making a left turn onto East Homberg Avenue from northbound Route 702.

The operator of the motorcycle was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene by medics. He is identified as Michael Johnson (49) of the 1000 block of Foxcroft Lane, 21221.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is continuing their crash reconstruction efforts to determine the factors involved in this fatal crash.

Route 702 at East Homberg Avenue in Essex was closed through the afternoon commute while Baltimore County Police Crash Team investigators were on the scene of a serious crash, resulting in the death of an 83-year-old man.

The preliminary investigation indicates that just before 2:40 p.m. a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on East Homberg Avenue crossing Route 702 when it was struck on the passenger side by a Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Route 702, causing the Corolla to roll.

The driver of the Charger, a 32-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries by Maryland State Police Medevac. The driver of the Corolla suffered cardiac arrest at the scene and was transported to MedStar Franklin Square Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 3:37 p.m. He is identified as Marion Joseph Krolikowski (83) of the 1700 block of Hilltop Avenue, 21221.

Crash investigators continue to work to determine the factors involved in the cause of this fatal crash.

Baltimore County Police are investigating a serious crash, involving multiple vehicles, that led to one fatality and left another injured.

Police responded on March 17, 2019 just after 2 a.m. to a crash in the area of westbound Route 702, west of the exit to southbound IS695. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Acura RDX was traveling westbound when it left the edge of the roadway and traveled into the median, then reentered the roadway and crossed over both lanes of westbound Route, colliding with a guardrail. 

The Acura RDX ultimately became disabled in the westbound travel lanes of Route 702. A second vehicle, a 2013 Acura TL, struck debris that was in the roadway as a result of the crash, causing it to also became disabled. A third vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Camry, then struck the resting Acura RDX. Finally, a fourth vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai, struck the 2005 Toyota Camry.

The driver of the 2005 Toyota Camry was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and is expected to survive. 

The driver of the Acura RDX was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is identified as Elbert Charles Johns 3rd (32) of the 1400 block of Hadwick Drive, 21221.

This cause of this crash continues to be investigated by members of the Baltimore County Police Department Crash Investigation Team.
