The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is continuing their investigation into a fatal crash on Liberty Road last night involving a Baltimore County Police officer.

At approximately 11:32 p.m. an officer from the Woodlawn Precinct was responding to a call of a home invasion with a possible shooting in the 7400 block of Lesada Drive, 21244, when he struck and killed a pedestrian in the center turn lane on Liberty Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the officer was traveling eastbound on Liberty Road in emergency status when he entered the center turn lane to bypass traffic that had backed up on Liberty Road near Meadowdale Drive, about two blocks west of Rolling Road. The officer struck 71-year-old Robert Louis Mayo of the 2800 block of Brighton Street, 21216 when he crossed Liberty Road and entered into the center turn lane in front of the police vehicle. He was not using a crosswalk to cross Liberty Road. After being struck by the police vehicle he was thrown into the westbound traffic lane where he was struck a second time by a Ford Explorer. Additional police and medics responded to the scene, where Mr. Mayo was pronounced deceased.

The officer was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Body Worn Camera footage has been reviewed and supports the initial findings of the investigation. It is not expected to be released publicly due to the graphic nature of the video. The officer's name will be released at a later date.

UPDATE (September 14  8:10 a.m.):

Baltimore County Police have identified the remains found on the campus of CCBC Catonsville in June as those of 49-year-old Andrew Bibo. Bibo had a last known address in the 100 block of Prospect Avenue 21228 but his father told police that he had not lived there in over a year.

Just before 1 p.m. on June 11, Baltimore County Police responded to the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County (800 block of Rolling Road 21228) after surveyors working in a wooded area nearby found human remains.

The skeletal remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where they were identified as those of Andrew Bibo. The cause of death has been listed as undetermined.

UPDATE (June 12):

The Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate after human remains were found on the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County Thursday. There are no signs of foul play. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will attempt to make a positive ID of the remains.

Human remains have been found on the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County (800 block of Rolling Road 21228).

Baltimore County Police responded to the Rolling Road entrance to the college at 12:38 p.m. this afternoon after surveyors working in a wooded area nearby found human remains.

Detectives are uncertain exactly how long the remains have been at the location. The body is not that of Timothy Getka, a man who remains missing from the Catonsville area.

The remains will be taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
