Last week's 3-alarm fire at Loafers Sports Bar & Grill in Catonsville remains under investigation by Baltimore County Police fire investigators.

The popular restaurant and nightclub suffered significant damage in the August 30 fire; investigators estimated damages at about $1 million.

BCoFD crews were dispatched at 3:59 p.m. to the restaurant, frequently called Loafers Lounge, in the 6500 block of Baltimore National Pike, 21228. A fire marshal from Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services who saw smoke coming from Loafers as he was driving on U.S. 40 called 911.

At about the same time, patrons in the restaurant 3-alarm fire, Loafers Sports Bar & Grillsmelled smoke and alerted an employee. Fire crews found heavy fire when they arrived. A second alarm was called at 4:12 p.m., and a third alarm at 4:49 p.m. Crews moved to defensive operations, fighting the fire from the outside.

BCoPD fire investigators have determined that the fire started in an exterior wall surrounding the second-story staircase. The cause remains under investigation.

Two career and one volunteer firefighter were transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

Firefighters rescued 15 goldfish from a large aquarium inside the nightclub.
