Police continue to investigate a fatal crash on MD 702 in Essex that occurred just before 9 p.m. Saturday night.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Hyundai Tucson traveling westbound on MD 702 near the exit to I-695 failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, crossing the grass median and the eastbound travel lanes, then traveling down an embankment where it struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Shannon Michele Kraft (30) of the 3700 block of White Pine Road, 21220, was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she later died. An adult male passenger was also transported to an area hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation.

Baltimore County Crash Team investigators believe that alcohol may have been a factor in a crash in Halethorpe last night that left one man dead.

Police were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Southwestern Boulevard around 5:44 p.m. last night. The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2010 Nissan Armada was southbound on Southwestern Boulevard approaching the ramp to westbound I-695 when it missed the ramp and collided with a concrete bridge pier of the I-695 overpass.

The driver and front seat passenger were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and remain in critical condition at the time of this posting.

The rear seat passenger, identified as Aleksandr Nizhnikov (45) of the 3100 block of Old Post Drive in Pikesville, 21208, was transported to St. Agnes Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Crash Team investigators continue to work to determine all factors that may have contributed to this crash.

Baltimore County Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who has stolen thousands of dollars worth of copper wiring from street lamps in Dundalk.

The ramp loops to and from I-695 at Eastern Avenue have become a bit darker since the beginning of April, when an unknown suspect began removing the copper wiring feeding the street lamps inside the ramp loops, rendering the lights inoperable. Not only does this pose a danger to drivers during the overnight hours, but the wires being taken are live, causing the potential for a fire or electrocution.

There have been at least 5 incidents of this occurring since April 3rd, most of them happening during the early evening hours, the latest of which occurred last night. Area cameras were able to capture images of the suspect, including a brief surveillance video.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 410-307-2020. These crimes remain under investigation by the Baltimore County Pawn, Precious Metals and & Scrap Metal Team.
