A 61-year-old woman has died of injuries sustained in an early-morning, one-alarm fire in a Woodlawn motel.

The victim, Darline Nelson Grady, of no fixed address, was transported by EMS personnel to St. Agnes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation by BCoPD fire investigators found the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

BCoFD crews responded at 12:20 a.m. to the Days Inn motel in the 1600 block of Whitehead Ct., 21207. First arriving crews (Engine 13) found an odor of burning and located the fire in a room on the second floor. They found the victim in critical condition in that room.

Crews searched for additional victims and found none. The fire was under control by 12:42 a.m.
