Just before 3:30 p.m. on May 15 Baltimore County Police responded to a pedestrian-involved crash at Pulaski Highway and Rossville Boulevard, 21237 in the White Marsh Precinct.

The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian, 44-year-old George Galen Nelson, III, with no fixed address, was struck by a 2006 Ford E250 van which was traveling west on Pulaski Highway. Nelson was struck when he entered the path of the van, which remained at the scene. This intersection does not have a crosswalk or a pedestrian signal.

The pedestrian was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. The investigation is on-going at this time, conducted by the Baltimore County Crash Investigation Team.

A 68-year-old man has died of injuries suffered as a result of a kitchen fire in a Lansdowne apartment building.

The victim is William Melvin Riggins, of the 2900 block of Lakebrook Circle, 21227. He died May 11, one day after a small, accidental grease fire.

The fire was dispatched at 7:41 p.m. on May 10.

The victim was transported to St. Agnes Hospital with minor smoke inhalation.  He was transferred to a local hospice facility for treatment of complications from the smoke inhalation and a preexisting illness and died at that facility.

This victim is the fifth fire fatality in Baltimore County so far this year.
